Phi Beta Kappa society member and attorney Christopher Lane graduated summa cum laude from Albion College in 1986 with a BA in economics. For postgraduate study, he earned both an MBA and JD (cum laude) from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Since 2002, attorney Christopher “Chris” Lane has been a solo practitioner in Clemons, North Carolina, and he has managed to run in 59 marathons.

While marathons have long been widespread in much of the western world, they have recently become very popular in China. The 36th Beijing international marathon was celebrated in September, and it has come a long way since its inaugural run in 1981 when only 200 runners participated. The 2016 marathon received 66,576 applicants, but only 30,000 were allowed to participate.

In 2015, the Chinese Athletic Association counted 134 marathons in 79 cities, which was 34 more than in 2014. Around 1.5 million runners from around 90 countries took part in the races that year, and more than 200 marathons will take place in 2016.
